Name of the Club: Historians – ThePublic Health History Club

Faculty Advisor: Dr Shaveta Menon

Launched on: 5.7.2023 on the anniversary of small pox eradication in the country, a public health milestone.

Aims and Objectives:

  • To encourage interest in public health history
  • To enhance reading and research skills
  • To be able to apply historical knowledge in tackling present day health events
  • To identify and develop case studies from major historical health events
  • To review and analyse journal articles, blogs, etc.
  • To develop logs/timelines of important public health events
  • To study the evolution of health events, policies, acts and programmes

Activities:

  • Public health history Quiz
  • Short film competitions
  • Field trips to various sites showcasing public health history
  • Collaboration with other clubs in the university to host combined events and activities

Proposed Outcomes:

  • Exposure and spreading awareness of public health history
  • Inter-institutional collaboration and exposure to new thoughts and ideas
  • To establish social media footprint
  • An avenue for presentation of papers and project

Meeting frequency: Once a month (Third Friday of the month), 3-5 PM

Launched on: 22.10.2023 on the University Founder’s Day

Aims and Objectives:

  • Creating public health awareness in the community
  • Promote health literacy in the population
  • Observing health days of public health importance
  • To enhance reading and research skills

Activities:

  • Content creation
  • Short film competitions
  • Field trips and community outreach to the marginalised communities to promote health literacy
  • Collaboration with other clubs in the university to host combined events and activities

Proposed Outcomes:

  • Exposure and spreading awareness of public health problems of significance
  • Inter-institutional collaboration and exposure to new thoughts and ideas
  • To establish social media footprint
  • An avenue for presentation of papers and project

Meeting frequency: Once a month (Second Friday of the month), 3-5 PM
