With over thirty years of experience in the field Dr Nair has worn multiple hats: community physician, academician, public health researcher and administrator. Prior to joining DY Patil School of Public Health, she was affiliated with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal wherein she held several leadership positions as the Professor & Head in the Department of Community Medicine, Director- Student Affairs of the University, and the head of the Centre for Community Oncology. She has had the opportunity to practice medicine in various settings and this combined with her training in community medicine, has provided her the impetus to pursue a meaningful career in the field of preventive medicine & public health.

"The COVID pandemic has been a watershed moment for public health. Despite the tremendous strides that have been achieved in the field of medicine and technology, the need for an energized public health system was ever so evident during this pandemic. Newer challenges in the form of environmental pollution, climate change, alterations in the societal structure, and a technology driven world is overwhelming the fragile healthcare system of low and middle income countries like India. A strong public health system that draws from the expertise of varied disciplines is vital to tackle the multifarious challenges.
The DY Patil School of Public Health (DYPU School of Public Health), was established in the year 2021 with this very vision of protecting and promoting population health through quality education, impactful research, and meaningful community engagement.
